Southend-on-Sea - FUNdamentals

Destinations map

FUNdamentals, the new 'Movement ideas for Early Years' Programme designed and developed by British Gymnastics in conjunction with early years specialists is now coming to Chelmsford and Southend.

FUNdamentals will help younger children from toddler to 6 years acquire essential physical, social and emotional life skills.

Supported by Lord Sebastian Coe, the programme aims to provide fun activities and learning for the early years child.

Increasingly, researchers are finding that brain activity and brain development are enhanced by physical exercise.  It now appears that exercise can help kids learn at school and that starting at an early age can help children avoid obesity.

During the sessions, children are transported into a world where 'Funky Cat' leads them in a range of physical and musical activities. At the end of each term, children receive badges, certificates and medals to recognise their efforts and encourage them to progress further as well as to evidence participation and learning.

"The main aim of this FUNdamental scheme is for children to learn that movement and activity is fun and enjoyable'" explains Hilary Somerville, one of the founders of FUNdamentals. "This will encourage children's interest in all types of sport and will lead to healthier, active children and fitter adults."

Sessions are now available at Spring Health Leisure CM2 9DZ & Ekco Social & Sports Club SS2 6PU - cost £5.50.  DISCOUNT AVAILABLE for on line bookings – please use reference SX2310.

Sessions start in NOVEMBER and will run for  children aged 7months (walking) to 2 years, 10.30am for children aged 2 - 3+ and 11.30pm for children aged over three.
