Bullying
What is bullying?
Our definition in Essex says "bullying is any behaviour which is perceived by the targeted individual or any other person, as intending to hurt, intimidate, frighten, harm or exclude. It is usually persistent and an abuse of power, leaving the targeted individual feeling defenceless.
Bullying can be:
- verbal bullying such as name-calling, taunting, making offensive comments
- non-verbal or physical bullying including kicking, hitting, pushing, taking belongings
- indirect bullying which includes gossiping, excluding people from groups and spreading hurtful rumours
- cyber bullying such as inappropriate text messaging and emailing, sending offensive photo images by phone or through the internet.
